- Q: How do I install the Toolbar?

Macintosh
Firefox installation: Register for the toolbar at www.cybersmarttoolbar.com. An email will be sent to you. Click on the link in the email. Then click on 'Download Toolbar for Firefox'. Then click 'Install Now' in the pop-up window. The toolbar will appear when you restart Firefox. Then close the add-on window.Windows XP and XP Pro
Internet Explorer installation: Register for the toolbar at www.cybersmarttoolbar.com. An email will be sent to you. Click on the link in the email.Then click 'Download Toolbar for Internet Explorer'. Then click 'Run' and then 'Run' again. Restart Internet Explorer for the toolbar to appear in your browser. If the toolbar does not appear it may be hidden from view. In Internet Explorer go to View > Toolbars and make sure 'CyberSmart! Toolbar' is checked.Note: The toolbar requires ActiveX software to be installed on your computer. ActiveX is normally installed on most computers. If this software needs to be installed an information bar will appear in your browser that will prompt you to install ActiveX.

Note: For certain versions of Firefox a yellow bar may appear across the top of this web page with a message indicating that Firefox prevented automatic installation of the Toolbar. Click “Allow” to enable toolbar installation.
Windows Vista
Internet Explorer installation: Register for the toolbar at www.cybersmarttoolbar.com. An email will be sent to you. Click on the link in the email. A 'Security Information' window may then appear. Click 'Yes' and then, click 'Download Toolbar for Internet Explorer'. Then click 'Run". A 'User Account Control' window appears. Click 'Continue' The toolbar will install. Close and restart the Internet Explorer browser for the toolbar to appear.Firefox installation: Register for the toolbar at www.cybersmarttoolbar.com. An email will be sent to you. Click on the link in the email. Then select 'Download Toolbar for Firefox'. Then click 'Install Now' followed by 'Restart Firefox' to complete the installation.

- Q: How do I uninstall the Toolbar?

Macintosh
Firefox uninstall: Click Tools > Add-ons. The CyberSmart! Toolbar will appear as a Firefox 'extension'. Click 'Uninstall'. The toolbar will no longer appear after you restart Firefox.Windows XP, XP Pro and Vista
Internet Explorer uninstall: Click the Windows Start menu button. Then select 'Control Panel'. Then select 'Add or Remove Programs'. For Vista select 'Programs' then 'Uninstall a Program'. Select 'CyberSmart! Toolbar' from the list of programs. For Vista select 'Uninstall' then 'Continue' then 'Yes' from the pop-up windows that appear. Click the 'Remove' button and then restart your browser for the toolbar to disappear.Firefox uninstall: Click the 'Tools' menu in the browser. Then select 'Add-ons'. In the Extensions Manager window click on the 'CyberSmart! Toolbar' extension. Click the "Uninstall" button then 'Restart Firefox'. You must restart your browser for the toolbar to disappear.

- Q: What are the system requirements for installation
- Internet Explorer Version 5.01 and above for Windows XP and Vista. Firefox 3.0 for Windows XP, Vista, and Macintosh. The CyberSmart! Toolbar is not compatible with Firefox version 3.1 at this time.
- Q: Is the Toolbar updated?
- The toolbar automatically updates itself when new content is available. Updates typically occur overnight and will take effect when you restart your browser.
- Q: Does the Toolbar track web sites I've visited?
- The Toolbar does not collect any information about the web pages you visit except for those links provided within the toolbar itself. We collect this usage information because we want to know which sites teachers find most useful.
- Q: What information is collected and how is it used?
- We collect and store the following personal information with your consent:
- Email address
- First and last name
- Your role in K-12 education
- The state and country you live in
We use logged information about aggregate Toolbar usage in order to track usage and improve the quality of the Toolbar. We do not sell, rent or provide your personal information to outside parties unless we believe, in good faith, that such release is reasonably necessary to comply with law enforcement authorities. However, we may contact you directly regarding the Toolbar and related CyberSmart! services.
- Q: Where can I go for additional help?

- Q: Can the Toolbar increase the likelihood of spyware or viruses entering my computer?
- Other than the necessary toolbar configuration file (cookie), the Toolbar does not deposit or operate programs on the end-user's computer. It is not used as a vehicle for spyware, adware or malicious programs of any kind.
- Q: Why do some Internet Explorer users get an ActiveX error message when trying to install the CyberSmart! Toolbar?
- Your Internet security settings might be on High. This setting may prevent ActiveX controls from running. To install the Toolbar you must have ActiveX controls enabled. To enable these controls from Internet Explorer select Tools > Internet Options. Then click on the 'Security' tab. Then click on the 'Internet' icon in the window. Change the settings to 'Medium-Low' (or if your institution will not allow this, click on the green check mark 'Trusted Sites' and add http://www.cybersmarttoolbar.com as a trusted site. Then click 'ok' to save the changes. You may have to uninstall/reinstall the toolbar after you change these options in order for the toolbar to appear.
